Proserve DASRI

Proserve DASRI selected our solutions to optimise the collection of infectious healthcare waste while complying with strict regulatory requirements.

Proserve DASRI: their challenges and the solution provided by Nomadia

Presentation

Founded in 2018 from the merger of Groupe GC and Medisita – Suez, Proserve DASRI is now France’s leading provider of infectious healthcare waste (DASRI) management. The company handles 75,000 tonnes of DASRI annually, collected from 35,000 clients including hospitals, nursing homes, laboratories, clinics, doctors, tattoo artists, and private individuals. Proserve DASRI operates a fleet of 350 vehicles adapted for transporting specific waste types.

The challenge

Optimising service area segmentation upstream of collections

Beyond the geographical proximity to agencies, collection frequency is a key planning factor, as it is legally regulated. For example, clients generating more than 100 kg of DASRI per week must comply with a maximum 72-hour interval between each collection. Proserve DASRI is committed to meeting these deadlines for its clients.

Before the merger, only Groupe GC was using a route optimisation tool. However, that solution lacked flexibility and did not include location intelligence to fine-tune territory segmentation around agencies ahead of collection planning. This made the process time-consuming and unreliable, given the complex constraints. As part of its digital transformation, Proserve DASRI sought a more flexible and comprehensive solution that could also ensure full traceability from collection to disposal, including direct access to Waste Tracking Forms (BSD) during transport, in compliance with regulations.

The solution provided by Nomadia

Following a call for tenders and several proof-of-concept (POC) phases, Proserve DASRI selected Nomadia’s TourSolver solution in SaaS mode. This route planning tool natively integrates a territory segmentation module, allowing the company to optimise its 7 collection zones a key requirement for efficient routing.

Thanks to its advanced optimisation algorithms, TourSolver proved to be the ideal solution to plan waste collection routes while taking into account numerous operational and regulatory constraints such as frequency, duration, and recurrence of visits (some sites require multiple pick-ups per day), vehicle capacity based on waste volumes, and mandatory unloading at an approved disposal site at the end of each route.

Nomadia provided us with a flexible, user-friendly SaaS solution that met all our requirements, including the complex modelling of time windows. Since the merger, TourSolver has been a strong pillar of our transformation and has enabled us to move toward a dynamic growth model.

Toward a tailored, enriched integration of TourSolver

Today, Nomadia’s TourSolver solution is an integral part of Proserve DASRI’s daily operations. The benefits are numerous: time savings for operations managers, fewer kilometres travelled, and easier schedule management during staff leave, all contributing to improved peace of mind for the teams.

The company is now considering extending the use of Nomadia’s solution to its heavy vehicle routes (GRV), which would involve additional parameters, such as managing the collection and delivery of client bins (BACS) to be loaded onto the collection trucks.

To support healthcare providers, Proserve DASRI must remain agile in adjusting to fluctuating waste volumes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company’s ability to adapt its collection schedules became crucial. Since the beginning of the crisis, the volume of waste to be collected increased by nearly 20%, requiring more frequent pick-ups. With TourSolver, the company was able to automatically replan its routes. Thanks to Nomadia, Proserve DASRI is able to meet its clients’ requirements by adjusting resources based on DASRI volumes.

With TourSolver, our branches can handle unforeseen circumstances. Our logistics team is able to stay closely aligned with real-world conditions in order to deploy the right resources at the right time for client collections. That’s the true strength of the tool.
