SPIE DML: Multi-Skilled Maintenance for Large Branch Networks

SPIE provides a broad range of services in HVAC, thermal engineering, communications, electrical installations, and energy. Its DML Division (Deployment, Maintenance, and Logistics) of the Greater Paris/North-West subsidiary delivers multi-skilled maintenance and repair services for large companies with branch networks: banks, telecoms, service companies, and energy providers.

In this context, SPIE carries out highly varied missions: thermal equipment maintenance, electrical installation repairs, implementation of national rebranding rollout programs for networks of up to 10,000 points of sale. With 200 technicians each completing 4 to 6 interventions per day, that amounts to 7 million kilometers traveled every year — a figure that absolutely had to be optimized.

-10%
The Initial Target: Cut Annual 7 Million km by 10%

This is the figure that motivated the search for a centralized tool. The adoption of a GPS tracking system had revealed an excessive proportion of time spent on the road by technicians — information impossible to act on without a dedicated optimization tool. Reducing even just 10% of those 7 million km represents 700,000 km saved per year, translating into hundreds of thousands of euros in savings and a significant reduction in carbon footprint.

The Challenge: 6 Siloed Planners, No Coordination and No Shared Tool

  • 🧩 Siloed planning by technician groups: 6 planners each organized the work of a group of technicians, without necessarily communicating with one another. The result: overlapping territories, assignment conflicts, and a fragmented view of overall activity.
  • 🚗 Excessive proportion of travel time: the absence of geographical route optimization generated incoherent journeys, revealed by the introduction of a GPS tracking system — which served as the trigger to search for a solution.
  • Difficult emergency management without a real-time tool: integrating an urgent corrective intervention into an already established schedule, without automatic recalculation, required numerous phone calls and disrupted the entire day.
  • 📞 Excessive volume of phone calls: without automatic dispatch of interventions to field technicians, every schedule update went through a phone call — a time-consuming bottleneck for planners and a source of errors.
  • 📋 No intervention traceability: without a field portal, service reports came back informally, making it difficult to track activity and provide proof of service to key account clients.

Nomadia Field Service: Real-Time Scheduling and the "Drip-Feed" Dispatch Mechanism

SPIE selected Nomadia Field Service for two key reasons: its ability to integrate and schedule new requests in real time, transmitted directly to field technicians' mobile devices, and the user-friendliness of its interface for planners.

💧 The "Drip-Feed" Mechanism — How SPIE Manages Its Technicians
🌅
Start of Day

🚨
Corrective Emergency
Preventive task detected within 30 days and 3 km → "absorbed" on the spot

Real-Time Scheduling

New priority requests integrated and transmitted instantly to field technicians' mobile devices, without any phone call.

🔧
Multi-Constraint Configuration

Branch opening hours, technician skills, home proximity for route start, contractual obligations: all automatically integrated into every schedule.

🎯
Preventive-Corrective Merging

When a corrective emergency arises, automatic detection of preventive tasks scheduled within the next 30 days and within a 3 km radius, "absorbed" into the same route.

📱
Mobile Field Portal

Technicians update the status of each intervention and submit their service reports directly on their mobile device, guaranteeing real-time traceability.

🗺️
Per-Route Mileage Tracking

Precise visibility on kilometers traveled per technician and per route — a competitive advantage for clients focused on their carbon footprint.

🖥️
Ergonomic Interface for Planners

Fast adoption thanks to a user-friendly interface, cited by SPIE as the primary selection criterion for rapid buy-in from the DML's 6 planners.

This justified the search for a centralized tool enabling better assignment of interventions to technicians and helping reduce, even by just 10%, the 7 million kilometers traveled each year.

80%
Of Service Requests Scheduled and Dispatched Automatically

Thanks to Nomadia Field Service, 80% of service requests are scheduled and dispatched automatically to field technicians, without any phone call. The volume of planner calls has significantly decreased, freeing up time for supervision and handling complex cases.

The solution ensures much greater schedule coherence and eliminates any assignment conflicts, with the technician chosen by the system. Nomadia Field Service also allows us to know the kilometers traveled, which can prove to be a competitive advantage: the clients who outsource their branch maintenance to us are increasingly attentive to this information, particularly in the context of reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.

The Benefits Experienced by SPIE

  1. Greater Schedule Coherence, Zero Assignment Conflicts

Centralizing scheduling eliminates silos between planners. The system automatically selects the right technician for each intervention based on skills, location, and constraints. Assignment conflicts are a thing of the past.

  2. 80% of Interventions Dispatched Automatically, Without a Phone Call

The volume of phone calls from planners has significantly decreased. 80% of requests are scheduled and dispatched automatically to technicians' mobile devices. Planners focus on the remaining 20% — emergencies, complex cases, and strategic arbitrations.

  3. Intelligent Preventive-Corrective Merging for Emergencies

When a corrective emergency arises, the system automatically detects whether a preventive task is scheduled within the next 30 days and within a 3 km radius. If so, it is "absorbed" into the technician's route, optimizing travel and avoiding a second visit.

  4. Complete Traceability of Every Intervention

Via the mobile portal, technicians update each intervention's status and submit their service report in real time. SPIE has complete traceability of all activity — an asset for billing, contract management, and proof of service for key account clients.

  5. A Competitive CSR Argument with Customers

Precise visibility on kilometers traveled per route has become a differentiating commercial argument for SPIE. Its key account clients — banks, telecoms operators, energy providers — are increasingly attentive to the CO₂ emission reductions of their service providers. Nomadia Field Service transforms this operational data into a customer retention lever.

A Competitive Lever for Multi-Skilled Maintenance Service Providers

Operational Responsiveness

Emergency integrated in real time, immediately dispatched to the technician's mobile device: zero delay between the client request and field assignment.

💶
Transport Cost Reduction

Target: -10% on 7 million annual km — hundreds of thousands of km saved, directly translated into fuel savings and reduced operating costs.

🌿
Customer CSR Argument

Kilometers traveled precisely measured and shareable with clients: a competitive edge in a B2B market increasingly sensitive to service provider GHG emissions.
